Public Information Meeting #2: Proposed Improvements and public feedback and input (anticipated in Spring 2025)
Project Milestones
- Summer/Winter 2020 – Development of the design alternatives for consideration
- June 2021 – The Pulaski Road Corridor Advisory Committee met on the 10th to review the public feedback collected during the interactive survey as well as the improvement alternatives that will be presented to the community during the Public Information Meeting #1. Members of the CAC provided feedback and insights into some of the details presented in the improvement alternatives. See link for additional information.
- July 2021 – The Pulaski Road Phase I Study Team conducted its first Public Information Meeting on the 28th to solicit comments and feedback on the improvement alternatives for the corridor. The meeting was conducted virtually in accordance with state and local guidance on the COVID-19 pandemic and there were interactive polls throughout the presentation to gather focused feedback to support the project team. See link for additional information.
- August 2021 - February 2022 – The Pulaski Road Phase I Study Team has been working diligently to incorporate the public feedback received and work toward recommending a preferred alternative and alternative design.
- February 2022 - August 2022 – Additional coordination was conducted with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) on historic preservation requirements for modifications to the bridge over the Cal-Sag Channel. The bridge has been identified as a unique parker-style truss bridge, which is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Additionally, the Cal-Sag Channel is a historic resource as part of the Chicago Waterway System. The project team has been investigating feasible alternatives for preservation of the historic features and potential mitigation measures for impacts to these historic resources which may result from rehabilitation or replacement of the bridge.
- August 2022 - February 2023 – The Study Team has furthered the geometric design to continue progressing the preferred alternative for the corridor based on stakeholder feedback, coordination with local, state, and federal agencies, and local businesses.
- February 2023 - August 2023 – Drainage and project impacts, specifically the drainage concerns expressed by the community and existing conditions, were explored and additional design work was conducted to identify opportunities to further mitigate drainage concerns in the local area.
- August 2023 - February 2024 – Additional coordination was conducted with the SHPO and IDOT on project impacts and the future needs of the Cal-Sag Channel Bridge.
- February 2024 - August 2024 – The Study Team met with the impacted municipalities to review the ongoing design elements, such as geometric review of the area, future local partnerships on maintenance, and feedback from the community. Additional design work has been conducted to update the roadway geometrics to reflect no proposed modifications or replacement of the Cal-Sag bridge.
